Cooling in your dairy shed
An investment that earns its worth
- Additional air circulation promotes heat output
- Reduced risk of heat stress
- Keeps milk yield high
Heat stress
Each year, heat stress causes a decline in milk yield.
A copious supply of clean drinking water is therefore a primary
requirement, while an accurately regulated ventilation system and
perhaps water cooling provide the ideal complement.
Mechanical ventilation
Although natural ventilation is usually a sound means of cooling
cattle sheds, it is simply insufficient when the outdoor temperature
rises above 25°C.
Mechanical can provide the solution.
The use of special high capacity Aerotech fans can
reduce the ambient temperature by anything
from 2 to 6 degrees, thus resulting in
improved heat emission. This is usually
adequate to retain a high milk yield.
Automatic control saves energy
The fans can be controlled automatically
using a DCC-1 temperature regulator and
speed control. And by opting for an Aerotech frequency regulator for
rev control, you can also substantially cut your energy costs!

Additional cooling combined with fans
Cooling can be improved even more by installing a water pipe along
the feeding rack, fitted with nozzles with larger water droplets.
However, this does also depend on fans being installed.
Positioning the fans for the best effect
Trials have shown that the best possible
effects can be achieved by installing
fans both above the walkway in front of
the feeding rack and above the freestalls
themselves. The fans can best be
positioned at a height of 2.40 to 2.50 m
and a downward angle of around
15 to 30°.
The spacing between the fans depends
on the capacity and throw of the model
chosen.
Water cooling
Additional cooling can also be achieved
by fitting a combination of fans and
a sprinkler system. Fans can also be
installed in the gables, to draw air in at
one end of the shed and expel
it at the other end. This type of system
can provide even greater cooling
capacity if used in combination with a
cooling system with cooling pads.
Heat emission is improved, while
maintaining optimum feed consumption
and milk yield. Ensure that the climate in your dairy shed
is more comfortable than in the pasture! |
